Restraint and simplicity are key to a stylish look that’s bold and uncluttered. Keeping things simple is a well-proven recipe for success, and one that may also save you time and money.
1. Avoid clutter. Keep pots to just a few different shapes and colours.
2. Choose carefully and limit the plant range to a few top performers.
3. Repeat the same pots and plants throughout the design.
4. Big is best. In the interests of a laid back summer, aim for fewer, bigger pots. The bigger the pot, the less often you will have to water and repot. However, it is important not to use too big a pot for small plants as this may lead to root rot.
4. Decorative pebbles used as mulch on the top of the potting mix help keep weeds out and trap the sun’s warmth. They also help hold moisture by slowing evaporation from the top of the pot.
5. Choose dry-tolerant plants. Those from hot, dry places will survive the longest without watering in dry weather.
Keep your container plants looking as good as the day you planted them . . .
1. Always use good quality container gardening mix, appropriate for the plant.
2. Mix a slow release fertilizer into the potting mix and liquid feed during spring and summer.
3. Water according to plant growth and the weather: often in summer, rarely in winter.
4. Even succulents, which survive the driest conditions of all, grow best with some summer watering.
5. Choose plants which will survive the rigours of container life.
6. Water crystals (added as a gel before planting) are useful during summer
We are able to maintain all types of garden including offices.
Yes we do. Even several storeys above street level, a colourfully planted patio can make a gorgeous garden.
When the weather is fine, an attractive deck or patio is one of the most inviting and useful spaces a home can
have. It is a valuable outdoor living room that deserves as much attention to detail as the one indoors.
But sometimes it’s hard to know where to start, especially when it comes to
choosing the right plants.
Garden designers Tara and Rose of Blooming Garden are called in to help clients in a quandary over what to do with their balconies.
